Strahl welcomes police endorsement

Fraser Valley Alliance Candidate lands thumbs up from Canadian Police Association

November 17, 2000

Fraser Valley - The national voice of Canada’s front-line police personnel have given Fraser Valley Canadian Alliance candidate Chuck Strahl their endorsement for the coming election.

“I’m pleased to get this vote of confidence from the agency representing Canada’s women and men in blue,” Strahl said. “I’ve always tried to make sure they get the recognition and respect they deserve in the House of Commons, and in the political arena.”

Strahl pushed hard in the last session of Parliament for legislated protection for police officers, their fellow emergency workers, and Good Samaritans with his Private Member’s Bill C-244, the Blood Samples Act. With the support of police associations, firefighters, front-line medical staff, and ambulance workers from across Canada, Strahl said his Bill made it all the way to committee stage. The bill was killed in the Liberal’s rush to the polls this fall.

The Canadian Alliance’s justice platform fits in with the Canadian Police Association’s goal of an improved criminal justice system and enhanced public safety. The Alliance platform includes commitments to put funds back into front-line police work, restore the Ports Police, and introduce truth-in-sentencing to keep repeat offenders off our streets.

“The police need the tools to do their job, and Parliament and the courts need to back them up,” Strahl said. “It’s all about making Canada a better place -- we need to work with the police to make Canada a better and safer country.”
